A day I feel like should be considered a national holiday, don’t you think?

According to the internet, it’s national Retro Video Game Day! (Because it says it is, don’t ask me…)

This is a day that I say it’s a good time to call into work so you can break out your favorite game console or old dusty PC and relive the memories of the games you grew up on. Playstation, Nintendo, Xbox, or maybe that old Gateway 2000. Regardless, it’s fun to rethink of those old times you were sitting in front of a tube TV and that’s all that mattered.

You’d head to Blockbuster or Family Video on a Friday night, search the aisles of endless video games and bring one home, and that was your weekend! Sure you’d go outside and play with friends, but when it was nighttime and everyone had to be inside? Your Super Nintendo (or Sega Genesis…depends on your generation) was the thing that kept you busy!

or

You had a pocketful of quarters, headed to mall and drained them all on Ms. Pac-Man and Street Fighter…and then in the evening you had to be picked up by your friends Mom to bring you home hopefully in time for dinner.

Gaming today is everywhere, whether it be your phone, PC, or even streaming on Twitch. But during it’s early days from the 70’s till about the early 2000’s…it was still just playing games before it became a job for some people. Grab a friend, sit too close to the television and dive into a colorful world of sprites!

Old skool is the best, just make sure you have a treasure trove of AA batteries to keep it powered.
