Come meet Sally at the Cedar Bend Humane Society!

This week on Fursday, we feature Sally from the Cedar Bend Humane Society! Sally however does have a little bit of a story though, so read on.

She is a 2 year old black and white Pit Bull.

Sally is a strong, smart 2-year-old girl with lots of love to give but came to CBHS lacking socialization, training, and basic obedience. She struggled meeting new adopters because of her playstyle, energy-level, and lack of manners. Because of this, we felt she would be a good candidate to attend the “Second Chances: A New Leash on Life” training program through Rock River Pet Resort. Read about his time at Rock River below!

You won’t often find Sally without a big goofy grin on her face, her butt wiggling, and her tail wagging. When Sally meets new potential friends, it’s often difficult for her to contain her excitement. She doesn’t meet a person she doesn’t love and definitely thinks that everyone should love her right back!

Even with a heart full of love, Sally’s lack of discipline came out in behaviors such as mouthing and pawing at you when she wanted your attention, over-excitement and jumping, and struggling with anxiety and being reactive in certain situations.
The behavioral experts at Rock River took Sally into their program, and we’re happy to share that this silly girl has come a long way in so many aspects! Sally is still a social butterfly with people and will happily roll over for belly rubs, but she now understands the command ‘sit’, along with the assistance of a collar correction, and will stop when her excitement crosses the line into bad behavior. Sally is eager to please and learn and has reacted very positively to obedience commands. She will happily work for treats and takes them nicely from your hand.

While Sally is making great strides in her socialization and is far less anxious and reactive around other dogs, she should not go to a home with other pets. Sally is able to sit next to other dogs and doesn’t mind when they come sniffing around her kennel but is still learning how to behave properly around them in a play environment. Sally will benefit from being the only dog in the home, but continued socialization would greatly help her potentially be able to make dog friends in the future. She would love it if your home had a fenced yard for a place to play and learn!

Sally’s adoption fee is $225, paid to Cedar Bend Humane Society, which includes spay/neuter, vaccinations, worming, microchip, a start on flea/tick prevention. An additional $80 training consultation fee will be paid to Rock River Pet Resort directly for a required 1-on-1 training session to learn all of the details about Sally’s training level. In order to give Sally the best chance possible, Cedar Bend Humane Society will also be paying for 4 additional training classes to ensure that Sally will continue her behavioral successes with her new family.
