I’m very passionate about it, and is a VERY big chunk of why I got into radio. I love doing my show every single day, but sometimes it’s that extra stuff that is the cheese of the Grilled Cheese sandwich ya know?

You ever do the job and look back and think ‘Damn, I wish I could have done that better.’ It’s the definition of getting into your own head, and it’s been said that YOU are your own worst critic.

Here are 3 rock star interviews I look back and think ‘ughhhh god…..’

  • Spencer Charnas of Ice Nine Kills

I learned to ADORE this band! Their live performance, ‘Silver Scream’ album, and videos are amazing.

Good thing I knew NONE of this going into the interview…ughhh…I saw opportunity to interview one of rocks growing bands and I really pushed the ‘suck meter’ to 1000 here. Spencer just got off the stage after an amazing performance, so I’m sure he was beat…and here comes Mr. “Who the hell is this guy” asking about his shoes.

Yuck.

  • Danny Sexbang and Ninja Brian of Ninja Sex Party

I love this band….like….a lot….so what does a fan do when he gets to meet one of his favorite bands? OVERTHINK AND OVERPREPARE THE HELL OUT OF IT!

I rarely get the ‘star struck’ feeling, but as a fan of Game Grumps and NSP…I got the nervous feel for the first time in a LONG time. I had a list of questions, which kept me from LISTENING to them and kept me focused on my task…It was just bad form. One part that really sticks with me? Is Brian stating how KISS’ best year was 1998….I WOULD HAVE LOVED to hear why he felt that way…but NOPE…I was dumb and kept to my stupid script.

I became a fan boy and forgot what I was there to do. Since then, NSP has never done another radio interview….I feel like I may be the reason for that.

  • Chris Kael & Jeremy Spencer of Five Finger Death Punch

Your first…is your worst….and I don’t think it gets any worse than this.

This is my FIRST EVER INTERVIEW I ever conducted with a rock band, and it was Five Finger Death Punch. Chris Kael was new, Jeremy Spencer was included and guess what I knew about interviewing bands?

Nothing at all…I didn’t even know who they were. Good job right? They were good sports though and they could tell I was green as all hell. Fortunately I have been given plenty of opportunities to make this right with them, but ughhh I can’t even stand to watch this.

I have been doing radio interviews for over 10 years, and every single one is different.

What you may see is a guy just interviewing some bands and having fun right? I see the faults of what I could have done better…and these 3? Will continue to hound me until I get another chance.

But, I’m not counting on it though.
