It just is.
A little while ago I nerded the hell out about Mega Man X and how glorious that game is…I love it, it’s near perfect, I have a tattoo of him, and my car is named Maverick Hunter.
But another game I nerd the hell out about? Is Resident Evil…not just one game, but like the whole damn series of games.
Zelda, Mario, and Resident Evil are my top 3 gaming franchises of all time. I can find something to love about each game in those 3. Of course each one of them has had a bad game (Resident Evil Survivor…), but the great ones really outshine the bad.
The first 3 RE games are classic, a little dated these days sure, but Resident Evil 2 is just so damn good and keeps bringing me back to replay the story. The first is still fun and the 3rd I feel is just an extension of 2, but when I think of my kid days in gaming, these 3 games moved me over into the more adult side of games.
Then there was RE 4, 5, and 6…and wow….4 was just a mind blowing game. It’s still fun to pop in today because it was just SUCH a difference from what I used too. RE 5 is co-op fun that my friend Kyle and I STILL play to this day! We…try to forget Resident Evil 6 ever happened.
Then onto the new trilogy of 7, soon to be 8, and the inevitable 9 At first I was kinda eh at the presentation of it being first person, but once I started playing 7? It grabbed me good and scared the bejesus out of me. Looking at footage of RE8 Village has me excited!
Lastly cause they have to be mentioned, the REmakes…RE2 Remake is easily one of my favorite games on the Playstation 4. They took that game, gave it a fresh look, feel, and completely reinvented the 2nd game without destroying it at all. If Capcom is good at something, they sure know how to make a good remake.
Resident Evil is just so much damn fun. It’s meant to be taken seriously, but at the same time…it’s a game series about killing the undead and massive creatures.
Just a ton of fun, and I’ll continue to get excited about them.
